I ran into Concretebob at the Code Red rally yesterday and he pointed me to the VFP’s theater in DC yesterday. Anemic doesn’t begin to describe what was going on at their little theater yesterday;

The display, of course is supposed to be markers of every soldier killed in Iraq. Some of the markers have actual names of the fallen, but most of them look like this;

Most of the people who visited the display, were on their way to the Capitol Code Red rally, so the doofuses had an audience thanks to Jon Voight and Michelle Bachman. You have to wonder why VFP doesn’t support war with Iran - you know, the guys who’ve promised to erase Israel from the face of the earth, denied there was a holocaust, and are all for hastening the arrival of the twelfth imam;

I’d heard from Concretebob that Cindy Sheehan was there along with IVAW and VVAw, but when I got there, all I saw was this ten-year-old girl and a few hippies;

I guess it’s because when I was at the display, there were no TV cameras.
Well, if you take a look at all three of the posts I’ve written about the events in DC yesterday, you decide which was more attended at their advertised start time. I’m not making any estimates of any of the crowds - you decide from the pictures.

There was a lot going on in DC yesterday, so I had to park the truck (illegally) and dismount to the Blogger Urban Reconnaissance vehicle to cover all of the evnts. The first place I went was to the Vietnam Wall where I ran into a small group of Gathering of Eagles folks. I rode up to two guys standing there with flags and asked “Where are the hippies”. Turns out that one of those guys was Toothless Dog (who , by the way, is a complete phony - he has all of his teeth. I made him show me.)
Then I shot over to Lafayette Park. It was just before noon, and I only saw a few hundred people. This is from my wide angle lensof the whole crowd;

Someone on the loud speaker claimed there were thousands “on their way”, but since it was supposed to start at noon, their numbers were pretty anemic. The Washington Post reports this morning that there were “thousands” - I didn’t see it.

If you’re wondering what those signs say, I blew up the photo for you;

I think these are the “Peace Grannies” preparing to regale the crowd with some of their unique stylings.

If you look closely at the pictures, you’ll see that many of the people in the picture are tourists spilling over from the White House;

The only thing I saw worth bandwidth was this hoola-hoop chic;

Not a bad turn out for a one day notice, huh?

The Capitol cops look a little bored despite the thousands.

It’s not very often I make mistakes on our phony soldiers, but I did, and I admit to them. Earlier this month, I wrote about a guy who was pretending to be a Tea Party leader, Dale Robertson. When we got his records, it was clear that he wasn’t the Navy officer he claimed.
Last night, we received more records from Records Center and it seems he was indeed a Navy officer;

Ok this is just beyond stupid. The group Rethink Afghanistan trying to get people to send a pre-made message to the White House’s website that acts as a watchdog for Fraud Waste and Abuse.
That’s why we’re asking you to report the Afghanistan War as an example of waste, fraud and abuse on the White House’s official economic recovery website, Recovery.gov, today. Simply scroll down to the field marked “What” and paste this message into the text box:
“I’d like to report the waste of billions of dollars of our national wealth in Afghanistan on a war that doesn’t make us safer. It’s fraud to portray this as a war that increases our security, and it’s abusive of U.S. troops and local civilians to drag out this war any longer. End the war so we can have real economic recovery.”
Really? I mean you really want people to take you seriously trying to pull stunts like this? What about the people that have real issues that need to be looked at. What your doing is encouraging the abuse of government resources wasting time looking at your political spam.
Also some crazy to go out on.
Americans only care about healthcare. They have ignored this abuse of power. If we didn’t spend so much on the wars, we’d have enough to pay for our OWN healthcare! We are taxed to death. Paying for these unconstitutional wars and other unconstitutional spending. People are just so stupid! Plus, the cost of caring for all … See Morethe vets with mental and physical repercussions from these illegal wars helps to bankrupt America. People just don’t get it! I’m so mad and frustrated with them!
No, just…no.

The Dutch are Deeply Hurt by the comments from former NATO commander retired General John Sheehan.
THE HAGUE, Netherlands – The Dutch prime minister Friday denounced as “irresponsible” a claim by a retired U.S. general that gay Dutch soldiers were partly to blame for allowing Europe’s worst massacre since World War II.
Dutch officials, from the Cabinet to the military, were outraged by retired Gen. John Sheehan’s remarks at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing in Washington, D.C., on Thursday.
The story is okay until the AP decided to spin a little of the history, particularly the events in Bosnia.
Dutch troops were serving in the undermanned U.N. peacekeeping force in Srebrenica when they were overrun by heavily armed Serb forces, who went on to turn the surrounding countryside into killing fields littered with mass graves.
Overrun by heavily armed Serb forces? Hard to say they were overrun when they didn’t fire a shot to protect themselves or the peace that they were sent to protect. Of all of the Dutch soldiers that were handcuffed to telephone poles in broad daylight in view of their comrades not one was wounded which is affair indicator of what a stiff resistance they offered the Serbs.
But this final quote from the article is the most laughable of all.
The Netherlands has a long history of accepting homosexuality, and gays have long been welcome in the country’s armed forces — which also allow labor unions.
As was pointed out to me in an email today from a great modern philosopher; the Dutch also have a long history is getting their asses kicked by invading armies and are only behind the French in their speed of surrender.
