Long Road cycle path

Local residents are encouraging the County Council to fund long-overdue improvements to the shared-use paths either side of Long Road. The idea is that this work should be funded by developers' contributions and carried out in advance of Clay Farm coming on-line. There is a Facebook page and an e-petition on the County Council website.
Community Notice-board

The community notice-board is available for use by local groups: on the green in front of the shops on Anstey Way. The notice-board was funded by contributions from the Trumpington Residents’ Association, Trumpington Parochial Charity, Cambridge City Council and local individuals. If you want to display a notice within the board, the key can be obtained from the Bun Shop or Philippa (tel 701733).
Trumpington Pavilion, King George V Playing Field

Education provision

The County Council has developed a Children's Centre at Fawcett School, to serve the Southern Fringe, as a base for services in Newnham, Hauxton and parts of the Shelfords as well as Trumpington.
The County Council is also planning an extension to Fawcett School, new primary schools at Trumpington Meadows and Clay Farm and a new secondary school at Clay Farm. As part of the consultation process, it produced a background document, with information about existing educational provision, forecasts for future needs, details of the new educational facilities, the statutory process for establishing these facilities and a comments sheet.

The Temporary Governing Body for the Trumpington Meadows school and the Governing Body of Fawcett Primary School have undertaken a joint consultation on proposals to establish a Federation between the schools to be operational from 1 September 2012. A consultation document was produced with the aim of helping understand what a Federation between the two schools would involve, what it would mean for the staff, pupils and governors of Fawcett Primary School and why the governors of Fawcett are also considering changing the school's status.
A second competition concerns the new Secondary School. Rob Lewis reported: in response to planned developments around Trumpington, the County Council plans to open a new Secondary School to serve both the existing and new communities in Trumpington. The competition process launched in April 2008 led to three proposals for running the new school being submitted to the County Council. The Council held a drop in session and public meeting on 16 September 2008. The decision on the preferred bid was then referred to the Office of the Schools Adjudicator which issued its decision in December 2008. The City of Cambridge Education Foundation (currently responsible for Parkside and Coleridge) has been selected to run the school from September 2012.
Addenbrooke's Road

Addenbrooke's Road opened on 27 October 2010, see County Council web site and report in the Cambridge News. The road runs from Hauxton Road to a roundabout beyond Shelford Road and there to Addenbrooke's Hospital, with access restrictions through the hospital. The Addenbrooke's 2020 developers have constructed Francis Crick Avenue to link with the access road. The M11/A10 junction is also being upgraded, with traffic signals and some widening. Landscaping work is taking place. See the photo diary of the construction work.
In June 2010, the Local History Group had a visit to the road bridge over the railway.
The plans for public art along the road include a Time Line Tree wood carving with significant dates in Trumpington's history and a metal tree to be placed to the east of the railway line. The metal tree was originally to have been placed in Trumpington, where the Residents' Association felt it was inappropriate.

Cambridgeshire Guided Busway

Bus services started on the Guided Busway on 7 August 2011. The Cambridgeshire Guided Busway has been constructed through Trumpington, from the Park & Ride site to Addenbrooke's Hospital, the railway station and city centre. Work started in the Trumpington area in April 2007, with the construction of an underpass on Long Road, a bridge over the railway to Addenbrooke's Hospital and clearance in the old railway cutting. During 2010, the track was installed through Trumpington to the station (see photos).

Clay Farm and Glebe Farm developments

In October 2010, Cambridgeshire Horizons awarded £8 million to enable construction work to get underway on the Clay Farm and Glebe Farm developments. The developer - Countryside Properties - announced that it would use 'Great Kneighton' as the marketing name for Clay Farm and Glebe Farm, reported in the Cambridge News on 7 October 2010.
The Residents' Association welcomed the investment but strongly disagreed with the decision on the marketing name, which is an inappropriate and historically inaccurate name which detracts from the community's sense of place and belonging. The Association's response was reported in the Cambridge News on 11 October 2010. The Association will continue to work with Local and Executive Councillors and officers in Cambridge City Council to ensure that the development is integrated into the existing community of Trumpington and that the area and facilities within the new developments are named appropriately.
Clay Farm/Showground development

The outline planning application for the Clay Farm/Showground development was approved by the Joint Development Control Committee on 14 May 2008 and the outline planning agreement and S106 agreement was signed in August 2010. The May 2008 report to the Committee has extensive information about the application, the responses from statutory bodies, local residents and others and the conditions which were approved by the Committee. The updated planning application is available on the Clay Farm Web site.
In May 2009, Countryside submitted a planning application for the spine road through the site. The original application is on the Clay Farm Web site and the Association has a set for local reference. Revisions were issued in December 2009 and April 2010. This was also approved in August 2010.
A number of staff from Countryside Properties gave a presentation to the Association on 26 January 2011: see this presentation (14 MB Power Point file) for a copy of the slides shown at the meeting.
Countryside is building the housing area around the Addenbrooke's roundabout where work started late 2011.
Skanska is building two housing areas: south of Addenbrooke's Road (Seven Acres) starting early 2012 and south of Long Road.

Trumpington Meadows development

The outline planning application for Trumpington Meadows was approved at the Joint Development Control Committee on 20 February 2008. Permission to proceed with the outline application was given in October 2009, after the S106 agreement was completed. Staff from Grosvenor and USS gave a presentation about the plans to the Association in March 2010. Barratt's has been appointed as the builder for the first phase, the village quarter and tree clearance has been carried out for the northern access road off Hauxton Road. Work is also underway on the development of the country park along the river. The landscaping of the park was approved by the Joint Development Control Committee on 2 November, with more research into the control of noise. The City Council and District Council (search for S/1113/10 for country park) have information about the application on their Web sites and a full set of documents has been given to the Residents' Association.
There was a public art walk around the development and the country park on 9 October 2011, The Do (8MB PDF), thanks to Sam Wilkinson, InSite Arts, and Caroline Wright.

Glebe Farm development

The full planning application for Glebe Farm was approved by the Joint Development Control Committee on 21 April 2010 and the outline planning agreement and S106 agreement was signed in August 2010. The outline application had been submitted to the City Council on 11 March 2008. An amended application was submitted on 11 August 2008 (copy held at the Pavilion): the Association responded with some remaining concerns. This application was approved by the Joint Development Control Committee on 2 October 2008. Countryside Properties gave a presentation about the detailed design to the June 2009 meeting of the Association. They submitted a full application in December 2009 (copy held at the Pavilion): the Association response was submitted in January 2010, with the main concern being phasing. The Council received amendments to these plans on 8 March 2010 (copy also held) and the Association has made a further response.

Household Recycling Centre

At its meeting on 13 October 2009, the County Council selected an area of Green Belt to the south of Addenbrooke's Road, between Hauxton Road and Shelford Road, as its preferred location for the Southern Fringe household recycling centre. There was an Examination in Public in late 2010 and a review of the specific site proposals in June 2011. The Inspector rejected the site to the south of Addenbrooke's Road, a final decision which is binding on the County Council (see the Final Report, paras 48-66). The Inspector referred to this site as ‘the most contentious allocation in the Plan’.
Addenbrooke's Hospital development

The outline planning application for the Addenbrooke's 2020 Vision (06/0796/FUL) and the full application for the Medical Research Centre (07/0651/FUL) were approved by the City Council Planning Committee on 7 November 2007. The Addenbrooke's 2020 application proposes up to 215,000 sq.m. of floorspace for clinical, biomedical and biotech research and development (there are extensive details about the proposal and its impact on the area in the report to the Planning Committee). The Medical Research Centre development relates to the replacement of the current Laboratory of Molecular Biology facility within the Addenbrooke's site, totalling 25,209 sq.m. of floorspace (see the report to the Committee). This received government funding in June 2008. The extended site will be served by the Busway and Addenbrooke's Road. The Addenbrooke's Hospital page has more information.
